5 days in Madrid, Toledo, Aranjuez and Arenas de San Pedro

13-17th September 2017

To be honest, we didn’t spend much time in Madrid, before you read further! Most of our time was spend in the mountain area of Arenas de San Pedro and Toledo. Both of which are epically beautiful!

It was probably one of the best short breaks I have had, and if you have the opportunity to drive out from Madrid, you really should.

Toledo: we walked and enjoyed the beautiful roman walls of the city. We went into a few churches and marvelled at the architecture. We ate good food and chose our “must stay in” accommodation for our next trip back there! Alfonzo XII (on a charming street in an area we loved and also featured in the Lonely Planet (https://www.lonelyplanet.com/spain/toledo/hotels/hostal-alfonso-xii/a/lod/eb7e5c82-5d9d-493a-8ae8-aa20e09f5aaa/360759) , as our own accommodation was good enough, but a bit lack lustre (I can’t remember the name, sorry!!) I can’t wait to return here!!

Arenas de San Pedro:  We stayed in a magical bed and breakfast called Posada Triste Condesa (http://www.posadamia.com/posada-triste-condesa) Basically: stay here, stay here!! There aren’t too many options to choose from in this town, and this option family run and more personal. If you are driving (which you would need to be really in this area) this is in the little town area of Arenas and a great base to go out and explore the mountain area from. The breakfast was fairly basic as I recall, but such a charming Spanish courtyard in the middle of the house to have your breakfast, the rooms were beautiful and the owners lovely. I think their English is limited, just to advise 🙂

Aranjuez is gorgeous and Madrid too. As we mostly walked around in these areas, I can’t overly advise.  Of the 4 nights we spent 1 night with Ruben’s family. Therefore, for the entire trip including flights, car hire and 3 nights accommodation, we roughly spent about £350 each. It was wonderful!
